Union budget directionless, retrogressive & inflationary: Congress

PNS | DEHRADUN

The Uttarakhand Congress has termed the Union budget 2025 tabled by Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the parliament on Saturday as directionless, retrogressive and inflationary.

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said that the Union budget is detrimental for the common man and Uttarakhand has been ignored completely in it.

He said that it appears as if the budget is only meant to save the coalition government in the Centre, adding that Bihar is the only beneficiary of the Union budget. He opined that the budget will not only increase inflation but will also increase the burden on the common man. The PCC president said that apart from giving tax benefits  to the middle class, the budget is disappointing on all fronts.

“The people of Uttarakhand were expecting a special package for the State but they were left disappointed by the Finance minister. No provision has been made in it to compensate for the loss of GST. No attention has been paid to the concerns of Uttarakhand in the budget and the railway budget. There is no mention of the green bonus for Uttarakhand for protecting the environment. The general budget will reduce employment opportunities in the country. There is nothing in this budget for the poor and the common man,’’ he said.

Mahara has said that the budget benefits the capitalists and no relief has been given in it for the farmers who are being forced to commit suicide. He said that there is no mention of loan waiver for farmers in the budget.

Leader of opposition (LoP) in Vidhan Sabha Yashpal Arya said that the government has reduced the budgetary allocation to the health sector by Rs 1,255 crore. Similarly a reduction of Rs 11,584 crore has been made in the education sector allocation. He said that a reduction of Rs 10,992 crore in the agriculture budget will affect the farmers.
