PNS | DEHRADUN

The State Employees Joint Federation has termed the decision of the Union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman to increase the income tax relief limit from existing Rs seven lakh to Rs 12 lakh as inadequate. The spokesman of the federation RP Joshi said that after the implementation of the eighth pay commission the relief granted by the Finance minister in income tax will prove inconsequential.

The president of the federation Arun Pandey said that the tax relief has been provided only in the new tax regime which means that the employees will be forced to move to the new regime and they will not avail the benefit of relief on home loan, 82 CC, tuition fee and others available under the old regime. Pandey added that it should be noted that the tax relief announced by the Finance minister will be available to only those employees whose salary is Rs 12 lakh or less and they will have to pay tax as per the existing rates on income above Rs 12 lakh.

The general secretary of the federation Shakti Prasad Bhatt said that the government should have kept zero tax upto an income of Rs 10 lakh,  five per cent tax between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh and 10 per cent on income slab of Rs 15 lakh to 20 lakh if it wanted to provided benefit for the salaried class.
