Fresh snowfall and rain bring temperature down in State

The weather took a turn in Uttarakhand on Tuesday with light snowfall in the higher reaches and rainfall in the lower altitudes and in some parts of the plains. The snowfall and rain brought down the temperature by a few notches in some parts of the State. Similar weather is expected on Wednesday with the State Meteorological Centre issuing a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of thunder with lightning likely to occur in Dehradun, Uttarkashi and Chamoli districts of the State today.
Apart from this, very light to light rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Almora, Tehri and Dehradun districts. The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky with very light to light rain accompanied with thunder/lightning likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 24 degrees Celsius and nine degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
Meanwhile, light snowfall in the higher reaches and rain the lower altitudes revived the cold in parts of the State on Tuesday. In the Chamoli district, snowfall at the winter sports destination Auli brought cheer to tourists and those involved in the tourism related businesses. People awoke to a cloudy sky in the region. Snowfall began in the higher reaches as the day progressed. High altitude areas including Badrinath, Hemkund, Valley of Flowers and the Niti valley were covered in a blanket of fresh snow. The tourists who had travelled to Auli made the most of the fresh snowfall with most of them indulging in various snow sports and other recreational activities. Rain was reported in various parts of the State with 16 millimetres in Pandukeshwar, six millimetre in Pauri, 5.5 millimetres each in Tapovan, Rudraprayag and Jakholi, 4.5 millimetres in Agastyamuni, four millimetres each in Ukhimath and Srinagar, 3.5 millimetres in Gauchar and 0.4 millimetre in Dehradun. The maximum and minimum temperatures were 22.8 degrees Celsius and 9.9 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 27.6 millimetres and 8.2 millimetres in Pantnagar, 16.1 millimetres and 7.9 millimetres in Mukteshwar and 13.2 millimetres and 8.6 millimetres in New Tehri.
