The general secretary of Pradesh Congress Committee Virendra Pokhriyal has said that the deportation of 104 Indians from the United States of America to India in handcuffs is an insult to the nation. Addressing a seminar organised by the State unit of the Congress party on the issue, Pokhriyal said that the Narendra Modi government should respond to the manner in which the Indians were treated as terrorists.
He asked whether the Modi government is aware that there are 7.25 lakh Indians in the USA who will be deported in a similar manner. “The government should answer as to how many Indians are being locked up in detention centres by America in this inhumane manner and are these Indians being given consular access,’’ he asked.
Pokhriyal added that the Modi government should also answer as to why it failed to protect the honour of its citizens like Colombia. Congress leader Sanjay Sharma said that the way in which the citizens of India were sent back to India by the USA in its own plane is shameful for the country.
Former MLA Rajkumar said that the Union government should give a befitting reply to America for the way Indians were sent in handcuffs and chains.
