Sanskrit villages to encourage Sanskrit usage in Uttarakhand

 In an attempt to conserve the Sanskrit language the State government has declared 13 villages as model Sanskrit villages.  The government has selected one village in every district for the purpose.

The Noorpur Panjanhedi in Bahadrabad block of Haridwar, Bhogpur ( Doiwala) in Dehradun, Kotgaon (Mori) of Uttarkashi, Dimmer ( Karnprayag) in Chamoli, Goda ( Khirsu) Pauri, Baiji ( Agastyamuni) in Rudraprayag, Mukhem in Tehri, Pandey Gaon of Nainital, Jainti of Almora, Kharkarki of Champawat, Urg gaon of Pithoragarh, Sheri gaon of Bagehewar and Nagla Tarai of Khatima block of Udham Singh Nagar are declared as Sanskrit villages by the department.

In these villages the villagers will be encouraged to speak in Sanskrit language and hymns of Vedas, Puranas and Upanishads will be recited on different occasions associated with culture.

 The government will also appoint part time Sanskrit teachers and trainers in these villages.

The Sanskrit education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that Sanskrit is the second official language of Uttarakhand. He said that use of Sanskrit in government and other works will be encouraged in these villages. The minister said that the State government intends to connect the new generation with Indian philosophy, culture and tradition.
