Cong to intensify smart meter stir

PNS/ RUDRAPUR

In latest news from Uttarakhand, with the Congress stance sharpening over the planned installation of smart electricity meters, the Rudrapur unit of the Opposition party threatened to launch a people’s agitation. Venting anger on this issue, the present Congress’s Rudrapur town unit, Himanshu Gaba said that his party had opposed the proposed installation during the campaigning for the civic body election. “We staged sit-ins, too at the power office. If the State government moves forward despite the CM’s assurance during the civic poll campaigning to revoke the move in deference to the will of the people, we will go for a more vigorous stir,” he warned, adding that the installation would add to the electricity burden of the wage earners and economically unprivileged people.

Meanwhile, the secretary, Energy, Meenakshi Sundaram said that his department had issued order on the smart electricity meter installation in accordance with the directive of the chief minister.
