Congress MLAs stage walkout during governor’s address

The budget session of Vidhan Sabha started on a stormy note on Tuesday with the opposition Congress raising ruckus during the address of the governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh.
As soon as the governor started his address to the house, the leader of opposition Yashpal Arya rose from his seat to demand that the duration of session should be increased. The Congress members marched to the well of the house and shouted slogans. However, the governor continued his address amid slogans from the opposition members. Amid pandemonium, Congress MLA Madan Singh Bisht and Parliamentary Affairs minister Prem Chand Agarwal were seen engaging in heated verbal duel.
The lone BSP MLA Mohammad Shahzad also joined the protest of the Congress members. Later, the Congress MLAs led by Arya staged a walkout from the house.Arya told The Pioneer that during the meeting of the business advisory committee held on Monday, the Congress members had raised the issue of increasing the duration of the budget session of the Vidhan Sabha. He said that the government is not in favour of extending the session. Arya said that the members want discussion on various issues like stringent land laws, smart meters, increasing unemployment, rampant corruption, payment of dues of the farmers and recurrent natural disasters in the State. Arya added that the detailed discussions on department wise budget should be held in Vidhan Sabha but the government is not in the mood of extending the duration of budget session.
