Congress should refrain from trying to divide State’s people, says BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party State president and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt has requested the top leadership of the Congress to tell the party’s MLAs to avoid talk which divides Uttarakhand into mountainous and plain regions. He opined that the Congress will soon suffer due to such divisive politics. Bhatt also appealed to the media to cooperate in this matter.
A few days after Parliamentary Affairs minister Prem Chand Aggarwals statements during the recently concluded Vidhan Sabha session elicited strong criticism from the opposition and segments of the public, resulting in the BJP telling him to abstain from such talk, Bhatt told the media at his Dehradun residence that all people in the State should talk in the interests of Uttarakhand. “We are all the people of Uttarakhand but the controversy raised to divide the people among Pahadis and those from the plains is guided by some ill-intention, which we all need to expose. It is important to identify those behind this, who want to divide Uttarakhandi society.
Following the controversy in Rishikesh during the recent local body elections, the manner in which the Congress MLAs created an environment in the Assembly around the latest instance is not proper in any way. I will also tell the senior Congress leaders that the manner in which their MLAs are trying to divide the public by making statements regarding people of the mountains and plains is highly unfortunate. We will not let such attempts harm the interests of the people of Uttarakhand. The Congress is going to suffer a major jolt in the coming days if it does not mend its ways,” the BJP State president said.
Targetting the Congress for its opposition to the land law, he said that it opposes every good work, which is why the public has taught it lessons from time to time. Uttarakhand has finally got a strong land law with the cooperation of the people, detailed discussion and consent. Everyone should welcome it but the Congress is habituated to opposing every positive step, Bhatt added.
