New law to make convicts pay for loss by forest fires

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that a new law will soon be enacted to ensure that those convicted of causing forest fires pay compensation for the loss due to the fires.

Dhami also appealed to the people to cooperate with the administration and Forest department in controlling forest fires. He was addressing a public meeting in Dugadda town of Pauri district after inaugurating a three-day event on Tuesday.

He said that the administration is making all preparations to solve the problem of forest fires. He said that the responsibility of the officers of the Forest department will be fixed in whichever forest area fire occurs.  On a stern note, the CM warned that strict action will be taken against those who are found guilty of lighting the fires.

Dhami said that the State government has started many schemes for the welfare of families of freedom fighters and soldiers. The government is also according priority to the dependents of freedom fighters in health services and housing schemes. 

He said the State government has freed more than 5,000 hectares of land from encroachment in Uttarakhand. The CM said that a stringent land law has been passed by the Vidhan Sabha.

He assured that the issue of human-wildlife conflict and development versus forest conservation will be taken up with the Union government. The CM said that the government is planning to formulate a new law on attacks by wild animals. 

The CM made various announcements on the occasion for the development of the area, including the construction of a modern multipurpose building in Dugadda. He said that  beautification and reconstruction of Bhawani Singh Rawat Shaheed Smriti Sthal will be done by the municipal council.  The CM said that the government health centre located in Dugadda town will be named after the late  Mohanlal Baunthiyal. 

MLAs Dileep Rawat and Renu Bisht, Kotdwar mayor Shailendra Singh Rawat and others were present in the programme.
