32 BRO workers rescued, rescue ops underway for 25 trapped after avalanche in Mana

Rescue operations are underway after 57 labourers of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) got stranded in their container shelters following an avalanche in the border region of Mana near Badrinath in Chamoli district early on Friday morning. Thirty two labourers were rescued till 5 PM with efforts continuing to rescue the remaining 25 workers even as active snowfall and rain hampered helicopter assistance and communication in the area.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reviewed the rescue operation being carried out with the involvement of the Indian Army, ITBP, NDRF and SDRF personnel.

The Chamoli district magistrate Sandeep Tiwari informed that anybody seeking assistance in the Mana area following the avalanche or in need of information can call at 8218867005, 9058441404, 0125-2664315 or the toll-free number 1070.

Meanwhile, Dhami said that the rescue operation is being carried out actively despite inclement weather. The trapped labourers are from various States. The rescued workers have been given necessary medical treatment. The Central government is also actively monitoring the situation while also providing all required assistance, he added.
