UPCL to pass on Rs 137 crore savings to consumers

The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has decided to provide a relief of Rs 137 crore to the electricity consumers of the State in the bill of March 2025. The corporation has implemented the Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment (FPPCA) which allows it to pass on the changes in the cost of fuel used to generate power to consumers when fuel prices rise or fall. The corporation saved money in the electricity purchase cost head in the month of January 2025 and it has now decided to transfer this saving to the consumers in the bill cycle of March 2025.
As per the FPPCA, the UPCL will provide a rebate of 35 paise to 95 paise per unit to the domestic consumers, 137 paise to non-domestic consumers, 129 paise per unit to government public utilities, Rs 41 paise per unit to private tube wells and 127 paise per unit to the LT and HT industries in the bill cycle of March 2025. The corporation had provided a rebate of Rs 427 crore to the electricity consumers under FPPCA from July 2024 to December 2024.
