Dehradun police have arrested three more accused, Kailash (28), Suraj (22) and councillor Veerpal (37) in connection with the recent incident of looting, vandalism and assault at a showroom in Rishikesh. The police have arrested a total of six people in the case so far, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. The police are continuing their search for other absconding accused, he said. Singh informed that all arrested accused are currently being interrogated and further legal action will be taken based on the findings. A man Ranjit Singh filed a complaint that a mob ransacked his showroom in Rishikesh on Sunday, damaged property, physically assaulted him and his staff and used abusive language. Video clips of the incident have also been making rounds in social media. The incident also sparked concerns over communal harmony in Rishikesh.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) also condemned the attack and sought strict action from the State government against the culprits on Monday. The SSP said that the investigation is ongoing and strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to incite communal tensions. He stated that the police have also noticed a social media post where the accused allegedly visited a Gurudwara and sought forgiveness for their actions. Continuous surveillance is being maintained on all social media platforms to prevent the spread of misleading or provocative content.
Singh urged the public to maintain peace and refrain from spreading any provocative content on social media that will hurt religious sentiments and can potentially disturb peace, law and order in the district.
