Provide internet connectivity in Panchayat Bhawans: Maharaj

Panchayati Raj minister Satpal Maharaj has directed the departmental officials to ensure internet connectivity in Panchayat Bhawans across the State so that the villagers do not face any difficulties in accessing the online services provided to them. Panchayats doing excellent work should also be awarded in some manner, he said. Chairing a review meeting at the Panchayati Raj directorate here on Tuesday, the minister also directed officials to include members of women self help groups in exposure visits held in the future.
The minister directed officials to increase expenditure considering the funds allocated under the 15th Finance Commission by the Panchayati Raj ministry. Regarding the reorganisation of the department’s structure, secretary Chandresh Yadav informed that the work is underway and will be completed soon. Regarding the increase of funds allocated for construction of Panchayat Bhawan from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, Yadav informed that the file is under process and after approval from the administration, steps will be taken to present the matter in the cabinet.
On the progress of the transfer of 29 subjects to Panchayats, director Nidhi Yadav informed the minister that the study group sent by NIRDPR had submitted its detailed report to the directorate. A committee has been formed at the directorate level and the report will be studied, after which a draft will be presented. She further informed that public representatives had been taken for training and exposure visits to Panchayats which had done excellent works in other States under the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan. Other representatives will soon be taken on such tours to enable them to replicate such good works done in other States, Yadav said.
