Ahead of the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday in Uttarkashi, the Bharatiya Janata Party said that the senior leadership of the Centre and State are aware of the ongoing issues in Uttarakhand and will soon take appropriate action in this regard. As Modi is scheduled to visit the State on Thursday, various organisations from across the State have planned to do demonstrations in the State’s summer capital Gairsain to voice their concerns over multiple issues. The demonstration will be primarily driven by outrage over a statement made by cabinet minister Prem Chand Aggarwal during the recent budget session of Vidhan Sabha which has ignited widespread criticism among locals. The protesters will be reportedly demanding amendments to the State’s domicile and land laws, arguing that such changes are necessary to safeguard the rights of Uttarakhand’s native population. The controversy surrounding Aggarwal’s remarks has also intensified the movement, prompting renowned folk singer Narendra Singh Negi to call upon people to unite and register their protest in Gairsain. With large-scale demonstrations expected, the situation poses a significant challenge for the State administration in maintaining law and order. Authorities are on high alert as people prepare to express their discontent against the government’s policies. In response to the mounting tensions among people regarding Aggarwal’s remark, BJP State spokesperson Vipin Kainthola said that both the State and central leadership are aware of the concerns raised by the locals. He said that the leadership will take a decision in this matter in the coming days. He urged residents to remain patient, emphasising that the government is treating the matter as a priority.
