A motor bridge connecting Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib and the Valley of Flowers collapsed on Wednesday at around 10:15 AM due to falling boulders from a hillside. The bridge was constructed in 2015. The incident has disrupted connectivity to Hemkund Sahib, the Valley of Flowers and the villages of Pulna and Bhyundar, cutting them off from the main route, as per the officials. They informed that one person lost his life after being trapped under the debris. Following the incident, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the district administration, the Health department and the Public Works Department arrived at the site for relief and assessment of the situation. The Chamoli district magistrate Sandeep Tiwari stated that officials concerned have been instructed to provide a solution plan at the earliest and further action will be taken accordingly. According to Gurudwara Prabandhak Seva Sangh, the incident took place around 10:15 AM while people were engaged in their daily work. Boulders suddenly fell from the hillside, leading to the complete collapse of the bridge.
