Journalists meet DGP on police harassment in  Kotdwar

 A delegation of the Journalists’ Union of Uttarakhand led by its president Ashish Dhyani met the director general of police (DGP) Deepam Seth at the police headquarters. During the meeting, the journalists took up the matter of a Kotdwar-based journalist Sudhansu Thapliyal being   subjected to police harassment and falsely implicated in a case.  They told the top cop of the State that this amounted to an attack on the freedom of journalism and democratic values ​​and demanded immediate strict action against the guilty policemen. They further said that the journalist had been facing the police wrath because he had shown guts to expose the police negligence in a road accident case.

The DGP is learnt to have assured them of fair investigation and strict action if anyone in the department would be found guilty. According to the journalists, he handed over the investigation to the inspector general of police (IG) Garhwal Rajiv Swaroop and directed him to submit the report within a week. Seth also asked for the union’s cooperation in their campaign against substance abuse.
