Large number of people attended the Pahadi Swabhiman rally in the summer capital Gairsain in Chamoli district on Thursday. Various organisations had given a call for the rally to register their protest against the use of abusive language by cabinet minister Prem Chand Aggarwal during the budget session of the Vidhan Sabha.
The speakers in the rally included Congress MLA Madan Bisht, UKD leader Pushpesh Tripathi, convenor of the Bhoo Kanoon Samiti Mohit Dimri, president of the Chamoli unit of the Congress Mukesh Negi and the chairperson of Gairsain Nagar Panchayat Mohan Bhandari. The speakers demanded that the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami should immediately remove minister Aggarwal for abusing the people of mountainous areas. They said that the people of the State are sensitive and the minister’s comment has hurt their feelings. The speakers also expressed dismay at speaker Ritu Khanduri for not allowing Badrinath MLA Lakhpat Singh Butola when he tried to raise the issue of abusive language of the minister.
The Chamoli district Congress president Mukesh Negi told The Pioneer that a large number of Congress workers attended the rally. “ We are Pahadi first and then members of the Congress party. We will not allow anyone to insult us and hurt our sentiments. The CM should remove minister Aggarwal and the BJP president Mahendra Bhatt should apologise for trying to shield the abusive minister,’’ he said.
