UPS for State government employees to come into force from April 1

The Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for the State government employees has been implemented by the Uttarakhand government. The scheme will come into effect from April 01. A notification for implementing the UPS was issued by the State administration on Tuesday. The State cabinet in its meeting held on March 3 had taken the decision to implement the UPS in the State.

The State government employees currently covered under the New Pension Scheme (NPS) will be given an option to switch to the UPS which offers a minimum assured pension to the employees on retirement.

The UPS includes an assured pension of 50 per cent of average basic pay for employees on completion of at least 25 years of service. It offers a family pension of 60 per cent to the last pension drawn by the pensioners to the spouse. The UPS has a provision of a minimum pension of Rs 10,000 per month for those with at least 10 years of service.

DEHRADUN : The employee associations demanding restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) have opposed the decision of the Uttarakhand government to implement the unified pension scheme UPS. The Uttarakhand chapter of National Movement for the Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS) has decided to observe a black day on April 1, the day the UPS will come into force. The State president of the NMOPS, Jeetmani Painyuli said that a large number of employees from the State will attend the protest at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi on May 1.

He said that there are many flaws in the UPS due to which the employees have rejected it. Painyuli said that the employees are united in their demand for the restoration of OPS and have rejected both the NPS and UPS.
