Police arrest man for job recruitment scam in Vidhan Sabha

Police arrested a wanted accused Vinay Bhatt (36) for his alleged involvement in a fraud case related to job recruitment for the position of guard in Vidhan Sabha. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that a case was registered on March 24, 2023, at the Nehru Colony police station based on a complaint by Umed Singh Chauhan, an inspector in the Vidhan Sabha security department. The complaint stated that Bhatt, along with his associate Ravikanta Sharma, deceived Sonal Bhatt by showing a fake appointment letter for the guard position and took Rs six lakh from her.
Out of this amount, Rs 2.5 lakh was transferred to Bhatt’s account, while Rs 3.5 lakh was deposited into Sharma’s account. The police had arrested Sharma in connection with the case last month. Since then, Bhatt had been absconding. The police tracked him down using informants and surveillance and arrested him late on Tuesday from Patel Nagar area. Singh said that the investigations revealed that the accused and his associates had defrauded several individuals by promising them jobs in the Secretariat and Vidhan Sabha.
Apart from this case, six other fraud cases are registered against them in different districts, including Chamoli, Haridwar and Dehradun, the SSP said. He informed that Bhatt is a resident of Patel Nagar area and has been charged under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery for cheating), 471 (using forged documents), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120B (criminal conspiracy). The investigation is ongoing, he added.
