The Bharatiya Janata Party has criticised former chief minister Harish Rawat for opposing the action taken against alleged illegal madarsas in Uttarakhand. The party described Rawat’s reaction as a sign of concern, suggesting that further investigation could implicate several Congress leaders involved in appeasement politics.
BJP’s State spokesperson Bipin Kainthola questioned why Rawat has been reluctant to support an inquiry into illegal madarsas when many residents have welcomed the BJP-led government’s work of shutting them down. He claimed that Rawat’s opposition indicated his discomfort with the crackdown and his statements suggested that he was still willing to go to any extent for political reasons.
Kainthola further stated that Rawat’s concerns intensified after chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced an investigation into the funding of illegal madarsas. He alleged that Rawat feared the inquiry might reach individuals close to him or members of his party. He claimed that Rawat was attempting to shield those who might be affected by the investigation.
Kainthola added that the funding inquiry will expose many individuals in Uttarakhand and reveal those responsible for activities that could harm the State’s identity.
