2-day int’l workshop on disaster management commences at University of Patanjali

The two-day international workshop organised on the topic of ‘Climate Change, Disaster Management and Disaster Medicine’ at the University of Patanjali commenced here today in the presence of a host of dignitaries from several foreign countries, including a professor of Spain University Ruben; chairman of Disaster Medicine Group of World Bank from Italy, Prof Roberto Mugavero; professor from Norway University, B Sitaula and scientist of Nepal Disaster Management Centre, B Adhikari. On this occasion, an international centre of excellence on ‘Disaster Medicine, Management and Climate Change’ and a patent cell came up in the university premises.
Addressing the gathering, the chancellor of University of Patanjali, Baba Ramdev said that this centre would prove to be helpful in dealing with disasters at the global level in future while dwelling on Patanjali’s humanitarian role during several major disasters like Tsunami, Bihar floods and Kedarnath flash flood. In his address, the vice- chancellor of the university, Acharya Balkrishna said that the spirit of service enshrined in the Sanatan culture is the fount of inspiration for all their welfare works.
On this occasion, the World Bank’s representative in India, Ashutosh Mohanty said that the University of Patanjali is the first institute in South Asia where a serious and organised initiative has been taken in the field of disaster medicine. He announced that the World Bank would provide scholarships, fellowships, PhD research and opportunities to participate in student exchange programmes in the field of disaster management and disaster medicine to the students of this university.
