PM chairs a CCS meeting, Sitharaman cuts short US visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at the Delhi airport upon his arrival from Saudi Arabia following the terror attack in Pahalgam.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has cut short her official visit to the US in view of the terror attack. She is part of the five-member Cabinet Committee on Security headed by the Prime Minister.  

Meanwhile, the massacre sparked condemnation across Jammu and Kashmir with shutdown observed in many places. The Kashmir Valley observed a shutdown against a terror attack for the first time in 35 years with people from all walks of life supporting the shutdown call. Peaceful protest rallies were also held at several places. Several political parties, socio-religious organisation, trade bodies, and civil society groups had called for a shutdown in Kashmir. Many Kashmir newspapers on Wednesday printed their front pages black by way of protesting the Pahalgam terror strike.
