PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun
Expressing strong dissatisfaction over the functioning of the streetlight services in Dehradun, the municipal commissioner Namami Bansal on Wednesday directed officials to implement immediate reforms and improve operational efficiency. During a review meeting and subsequent field inspection of the MCD’s streetlight section, the commissioner came across multiple shortcomings and issued a series of strict directives to ensure better performance, especially ahead of the monsoon season.
She said that a major concern was the malfunctioning GPS system installed by the contracted firm. She expressed dissatisfaction over its malfunctioning and ordered its immediate repair. She also instructed officials to organise a dedicated workshop at the MCD premises on April 26 to address the issue in detail. Further, the commissioner found that several field teams were not present in their assigned wards as per their duty rosters and were neglecting random inspections of their areas.
She ordered all teams to conduct daily inspections of their wards starting at 6 PM and to ensure all non-functional streetlights are identified and repaired promptly. Bansal instructed all teams to maintain proper registers documenting the work carried out each day to ensure accountability. Concluding the inspection, she issued a stern warning to the agency handling streetlight operations to immediately improve its work methodology. She stressed the need for a robust and uninterrupted streetlight system, especially during the upcoming monsoon period.
