Confer Bharat Ratna on HN Bahuguna: Congress

Uttarakhand Congress has demanded that the country’s highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna should be conferred upon the late Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna. A programme was organised by the State unit of the Congress party at Rajiv Bhawan to mark 106th birth anniversary of former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and Union minister Bahuguna.

Paying rich tributes to the late leader the vice president of Uttarakhand Congress Suryakant Dhasmana said that Bahuguna should be conferred Bharat Ratna for his role in the freedom struggle and his immense contribution in post-independence India. 

He said that Bahuguna became active in student politics in Allahabad University and then took part in the freedom struggle. He was jailed by the British. After independence he was elected to UP Vidhan Sabha from Allahabad and later became CM of UP. Large number of the leaders and workers of the Congress party paid homage to Bahuguna on the occasion.
