The State Forest and Environment minister, Subodh Uniyal said that the seed bomb campaign is a positive effort aimed at reducing conflicts between wildlife and humans while inaugurating the campaign organised by the Himalaya Paryavaran Jadibooti Agro Sansthan which is celebrated annually. The campaign commenced on July 9 and will conclude on July 15.
“Since the origin of the Earth, forests have served as our protectors. However, human greed has created a crisis for these vital ecosystems. Now it is time when we must come forward to preserve forests through collective participation,” he said and added that the pioneer of the Seed Bomb Campaign, Dwarika Prasad Semwal and the institute he leads should be lauded for initiating this well-timed campaign. He further directed officials to take the seed bomb campaign seriously by incorporating it into the annual action plan of the Forest department.
Speaking on the occasion, the principal chief conservator of forest, Sameer Sinha said that preparations are underway to produce seed bombs at the local level across the State.
Semwal, in his address, noted that the journey, which had begun in 2017, was progressing steadily. “This is a budget-free initiative, inspiring people to create seed bombs and conserve seeds,” he added.
Padma Shri recipient, Kalyan Singh Rawat said that while the world faces a race for destructive bombs, social workers in Uttarakhand have been contributing to the country with a ‘bomb of prosperity.’ He warned that until the importance of trees is understood natural disasters would haunt humankind.
