PET scan facility inaugurated at AIIMS Rishikesh for detecting cancer

The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav inaugurated the Positron Emission Tomography – Computed Tomography (PET-CT) scan facility at All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh on Wednesday.

The launch of this state of the art facility marks a significant advancement in the diagnostic imaging capabilities of the institute. Equipped with an advanced PET-CT system, the multi-functional facility provides comprehensive diagnostic advantages for detecting cancer. 

Jadhav said in his address that this facility would be especially beneficial not only for Uttarakhand but also for the people of Uttar Pradesh and other neighbouring States. 

“AIIMS Rishikesh is the first government health institution in Uttarakhand to offer this facility and this will prove to be a boon for cancer patients,” he said, adding that the launch would greatly contribute to advancing healthcare and cancer diagnosis in oncology, neurology, cardiology and several other fields.

During the event, the executive director of AIIMS, Rishikesh, Dr Meenu Singh said that her institute is committed to enhancing healthcare through innovation, education and patient-centric services. She described the PET-CT facility as a world-class healthcare resource, empowering doctors with an exceptional imaging tool that would improve clinical outcomes for cancer patients.

Addressing it, the head of the department of Nuclear Medicine,Dr Manishi L Narayan said that the new facility is a cutting-edge healthcare resource for cancer patients. “This state-of-the-art PET-CT facility is designed to revolutionise diagnostic imaging and elevate patient care to unparalleled standards,” he added.

Jadhav inspected AIIMS’s preparations for treating disaster victims in Uttarkashi, including emergency services in the trauma centre. He provided necessary guidelines to the AIIMS administration regarding these preparations. 

Besides, he inaugurated the Sushruta Gyan Setu Library and Teleconsultancy facility for AYUSH Health Services within the AYUSH Department at AIIMS. The officials concerned informed that over 500 books related to integrated medicine have been made available in the AYUSH department’s library.
