Despite the flash flood disaster having struck places like Harsil and Dharali a few days ago, the people enthusiastically participated in the Independence Day celebration. The national tricolours were unfurled at these places in the morning followed by collective singing of patriotic songs and the national anthem. Significantly, the personnel of the police, NDRF, SDRF and ITBP who have remained engaged in relief operations attended the commemorative programmes in large numbers. Those who spoke on the occasion said that natural calamities could not dampen the patriotic fervour burning in them and the large attendance signified this indomitable spirit of common people.
Senior functionaries of the Gangotri Mandir Samiti also attended the I-Day programmes.
