PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The opposition Congress will try to corner the government on what it terms large scale irregularities in the recently concluded three-tier Panchayat elections and its failure in relief and rescue operations in the recent natural disaster at Dharali in Uttarkashi, during the monsoon session of Vidhan Sabha.

The leader of opposition in Vidhan Sabha, Yashpal Arya told The Pioneer that the party will raise the issue of the irregularities in the Panchayat elections. He said that the mandate of the Panchayat elections was with the Congress party and the people have rejected the BJP backed candidates. He said that the ruling party tried to hijack the public mandate in the second stage of the elections for the three-tier Panchayat bodies by using money and muscle power.

Arya said that the Congress members will raise the issue of the misuse of government machinery in these elections.  He further said that the government failed in dealing with the disaster situation in Dharali and other areas in a proper manner.
