The Dehradun district magistrate Savin bansal has ordered cancellation of the permission of the road-cutting work of the Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (PTCUL) for violating the conditions of permission. A case has also been registered against the executive engineer and the contractor involved in the work.
The action was taken after several people were injured due to unsafe underground electric cable work near the LIC Building. The administration found that the work was being done carelessly and without following safety rules, causing problems for the public and disrupting traffic.
Earlier, on the request of the superintending engineer (project implementation), PTCUL permission was sought for road cutting to lay an underground cable for the 132 kV Majra-Lal Tappad LILO line from the 135 kV Araghar Sub-Station. The total length of the work was 1,996 meters, including five road crossings.
During an inspection by the Quick Response Team (QRT) led by SDM Kumkum Joshi, it was found that road cutting was being carried out against the approved conditions. The work was allowed only at night, but the rules were not followed. Due to this, roads were damaged, traffic was affected, and people faced safety risks. The district administration has ordered PTCUL to immediately fill the dug-up roads and restore them to their original condition at all affected places. Officials have warned that if the directions are not followed, more strict action will be taken against the concerned officers and contractor.
Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said that there will be no compromise with public safety, traffic management, and city roads. He added that strict action will continue against anyone who violates rules and causes trouble to the public.
