Cardiologist Dr Salil Garg honoured with FRCPE fellowship

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Senior interventional cardiologist Dr Salil Garg from Dehradun was honoured with the prestigious Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh (FRCPE) for his exceptional contribution to medicine. This honour is awarded globally to a select group of physicians who have taken clinical excellence, innovation and service to humanity to new heights.

Director and head of the cardiology department at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Garg is also known for innovation in cardiac care and visited by patients especially for the treatment of complex heart conditions and diabetic cardiac patients.

He has so far successfully completed more than 30,000 complex cardiac procedures, some of which were performed for the first time in Uttarakhand.

On national and international platforms, Garg has shared his insights on the evolution of coronary stent technology, from bare metal stents to the advanced new generation drug-eluting stents. In the field of medical innovation, he has strongly advocated the emerging concept of stent-less PCI, where Drug-Eluting Balloon (DEB) angioplasty is being seen as a promising therapy for the future.

This technique is proving highly beneficial for small-vessel disease, in-stent restenosis, and heart patients suffering from diabetes. By delivering the drug directly to the vessel wall without using any metal implant, it preserves natural vessel movement and marks a decisive step towards the era of metal-free angioplasty. Under his leadership, the cardiology department of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital has successfully performed advanced angioplasties, pacemaker implantations and high-risk cardiac procedures using state-of-the-art techniques.

Alongside patient care, Garg continues to play an active role in training young physicians, contributing to academic discussions and guiding the next generation of cardiac technologies.
