Uttarakhand government has decided to notify Uttarakhand Prevention of Gambling at Public places Act- 2026 to discourage gambling, public gambling houses and betting in the sports in the State. A decision in this regard was taken in the State cabinet held at the secretariat on Friday. The new act will replace the British era, Prevention of Public Gambling act of 1867 which will be annulled.
The cabinet also endorsed the proposal to amend the Uttarakhand Minorities Commission (amendment) Act 2026. The amendment has been done to protect the interests of minority communities in the State.
In another decision, the cabinet also endorsed the proposal to enact the Uttarakhand Private Universities (amendment) act 2026. Under the new provisions Mount Valley University will be established in Nainital while Tulas University and Shivalik University will be set up in Dehradun.
All these bills will be tabled in the House during the upcoming Budget session of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha in Gairsain.
