UPES will roll out ChatGPT Edu campus-wide in collaboration with OpenAI as part of its plan to integrate artificial intelligence tools into teaching, learning and student support systems.
Vice chancellor Sunil Rai said that the platform will be made available to students, faculty and staff across departments with institutional controls and security safeguards. The AI-platform is intended to support coursework assistance, research activities and access to academic information through AI-enabled tools.
Addressing the media here on Tuesday, Rai said that the deployment will include an AI-based tutor aligned with programme curricula to help students with concept clarification, practice support and multilingual learning assistance. The institution also plans to introduce an AI-supported student services interface to help users access policies and administrative information more efficiently.
He added that the initiative reflects a shift towards integrating AI tools into routine academic processes rather than treating them as experimental add-ons. AI literacy is expected to become an important component of higher education and workplace readiness. A responsible AI charter is also being prepared to define guidelines related to usage norms, privacy safeguards and data handling practices on campus, he said.
Head of Education for India and Asia-Pacific at OpenAI Raghav Gupta said that India already has a large student user base of ChatGPT and that institutional deployments are likely to increase as AI tools become more common in learning environments. He said that the platform is expected to support research activities by assisting with literature access and information organisation, while also helping students develop practical familiarity with AI tools during their academic programmes.
