Dehradun municipal commissioner Namami Bansal claimed that the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is expecting an improvement in Dehradun’s ranking in this year’s Swachh Survekshan after carrying out several sanitation and waste management upgrades across the city over the past year.
Bansal said that the city had improved by six ranks in the previous survey and additional measures have since been introduced to strengthen cleanliness systems and waste handling operations.
She further claimed that the MCD has focused on improving legacy waste management and strengthening door-to-door garbage collection in different areas of the city. The civic body has also increased the number of sanitation vehicles operating on city roads to improve collection and transportation of waste, Bansal said.
The municipal commissioner said that waste collection hubs have been developed in commercial areas to improve disposal systems and reduce garbage accumulation in busy market zones. In addition, two transfer stations have been upgraded into mechanised facilities to improve waste handling and processing operations. She stated that training sessions and awareness programmes have also been organised for sanitation workers and other stakeholders associated with the cleanliness system. Feedback meetings were conducted regularly to improve coordination and address operational challenges related to sanitation work in the city, she said.
Bansal added that Dehradun has received more than 12,000 responses during the feedback process under the ongoing Swachh Survekshan exercise. She said that the response shows increasing public participation in cleanliness-related initiatives and awareness campaigns. Bansal further said that improvements in waste management infrastructure, increased public participation and strengthening of sanitation services may help Dehradun secure a better ranking in this year’s Swachh Survekshan results. It will be recalled that in 2025, the MCD secured 62nd position in the Swachh Survekshan Survey with other cities and towns in Uttarakhand performing better than the provisional State capital.
