Preparations for International Yoga Day begin in Dehradun

The Dehradun district administration has started preparations for the 12th International Yoga Day, which will be celebrated on June 21. On Sunday, chief development officer (CDO) Abhinav Shah reviewed the arrangements to ensure the successful organisation of the event.
During the meeting, district Ayurvedic and Unani officer Dr Mithilesh Kumar informed officials about the Yoga awareness programmes already conducted in the district and the activities planned in the coming days. “Efforts are being made to spread awareness about Yoga through schools, colleges, government offices, Gram Panchayats and social organisations,” he said.
The CDO directed all departments to work together and coordinate their efforts for the successful celebration of International Yoga Day. Stating that Yoga plays an important role in maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle, Shah stressed on the need for maximising public participation. A day long workshop on the common Yoga protocol was also organised during the meeting. Yoga instructor Ravindra Thapliyal demonstrated various Yogic postures, Pranayama and meditation techniques to the officials and employees. He also explained the health benefits of regular Yoga practice and how it can help reduce stress.
