The Sahaspur police have arrested another accused in the murder case of social media co-in charge of BJP Yuva Morcha’s OBC wing, Vinod Kumar Kashyap in Bairagiwala village of Dehradun’s Sahaspur area on Monday. With the latest arrest, the total number of the accused arrested in the case has reached five.
The victim’s family initially refused to allow a post-mortem examination and staged a protest instead. However, following persuasion from police and district administration officials, the family relented on Monday. The post-mortem examination was then conducted.
The senior superintendent of police, Dehradun Pramendra Dobal informed that a case has been registered against those who blocked the National Highway, vandalised and set several houses of the accused ablaze and pelted stones at police personnel during the protest.
Vinod had allegedly been murdered on the night of June 13 due to an old rivalry and following a dispute over water. The incident triggered tension in the village, and angry residents staged protests. The situation remained tense for two days as villagers demanded strict action against the accused.
Meanwhile, authorities said that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in violence and attempts to disturb law and order.
Meanwhile, heavy police and paramilitary force deployment continues in Bairagiwala village to prevent any further unrest. Although things are normal, tension persists. The victim’s family has demanded a government job for one family member, financial assistance and strict action against the accused. The investigation is continuing, said a senior police officer.
