One arrested with illegal liquor worth Rs 8 lakh in Doon

A joint team of Patelnagar police and the Special Task Force (STF) arrested an alleged liquor smuggler and seized illegal liquor worth around Rs 8 lakh during a checking drive on Sunday.
The arrested accused has been identified as Jagjit Singh, 51, a resident of Bhuddanpur village in Mohali district of Punjab. During the search, police recovered 80 cartons of Punjab-marked IMFL of different brands from the vehicle.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of police and STF intercepted a Tata 407 truck on the road connecting The Sad Hotel and Transport Nagar in the Patelnagar area. Police estimated the value of the seized liquor at around Rs 8 lakh. During questioning, he allegedly told police that he had brought the liquor from Mohali to Dehradun to sell it illegally and earn profits.
Police registered a case against the accused under Sections 60 and 72 of the Excise Act at Patelnagar police station. The Tata 407 truck used for transporting the liquor has also been seized.
The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobal said that the campaign against illegal liquor smuggling will continue and strict action will be taken against those involved in such activities.
