Dehradun in Garhwal region and Haldwani in Kumaon region have recorded the highest number of water supply problems in the State till June 29.
According to Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan (UJS) secretary (Appraisal) UJS Maneesh Semwal, till the said date, Dehradun saw issues in 74 urban and 24 rural areas, while Haldwani in Nainital reported problems in 49 urban and 4 rural areas — more than other districts.
Semwal said that UJS prepares an advance action plan for every summer by identifying areas likely to face shortage based on the previous year’s crisis data.
Based on that mapping, around 1,060 areas across Uttarakhand were marked vulnerable this season. Of these, 191 areas in Dehradun and 256 areas in Haldwani covering both urban and rural habitations, were flagged due to high population pressure, among others.
