Taking cognizance of the concerns regarding likely inconvenience to the voters in responding to the notices during the ongoing process of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttarakhand, the Election Commission has decided to hold special camps in different parts of the State.
A directive in this regard was given by the chief electoral officer (CEO) Uttarakhand BVRC Purushottam during a review meeting with the divisional commissioner of Garhwal and Kumaon on Wednesday.
In the meeting he said that all the districts should ensure that no voter faces unnecessary inconvenience during the notice period. Purushottam directed that a roster be prepared for setting up camps at the Nyaya Panchayat level to resolve claims and objections in the mountainous areas. He said that for the convenience of voters in the plains, a roster for camps should be prepared at the Municipal Corporation, Nagar Panchayat, and Ward levels, in addition to the Tehsil level.
In the meeting the CEO directed the divisional commissioners- who are also roll observers of SIR- to conduct field visits to the districts and visit polling booths where the number of voters marked in the ‘untraceable’ category is high. He also directed the divisional commissioners to review the Absent, Shifted and Dead (ASD) voters verified by the DEO/ERO. The CEO also directed that booth level officers must make appropriate comments on the counting forms for voters included in ASD lists. He directed that a detailed action plan be developed for the disposal of claims and objections after the release of the draft voter list on July 14th. He stated that 70 electoral registration officers (EROs) and 800 assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) have been deployed in the State.
Kumaon commissioner Deepak Rawat, Garhwal commissioner Anand Swaroop, deputy chief electoral officer Kishan Singh Negi and assistant chief electoral officer Mastu Das were present at the meeting.
