Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami completed five years in office on Saturday. He became the first CM of BJP in Uttarakhand to achieve this unique feat.

In his message to the people of the State, the CM said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the double engine government of the State has dedicated itself for service of the people of the State and to fulfil their aspirations. The CM listed Uniform Civil Code (UCC), strong Land Law, anti-copying law, abolition of Madarsa Board and anti-religious conversion law as some of the achievements of his government.

Dhami, who completed five years in office on Saturday, will create another record of becoming the longest serving CM of Uttarakhand on July 9, 2026. On that day, he will beat Congress stalwart Narayan Dutt Tiwari who served as the CM of the State for a period of five years and five days.

Dhami first assumed the charge of the CM of the State on July 4, 2021 when he replaced Teerath Singh Rawat. He led the BJP in the Vidhan Sabha elections of 2022 and broke the myth of power changing hands every five years in Uttarakhand. Though Dhami was defeated by Bhuwan Kapdi of Congress in Khatima assembly constituency, the party reposed faith in him and reappointed him as the CM of the State for second consecutive term.

Pertinently, Uttarakhand is considered to be a politically sensitive state as it has seen 10 CMs after its creation in November 2000. In this light, completion of five years in office is being considered as an achievement of sorts.
