2 held with hashish in Champawat

Champawat police arrested two youths with 1.490 kilograms of hashish. Police also impounded a motorcycle used in the smuggling. The arrested accused have been identified as Ayush Chandra Arya (22), a resident of Chhatar, Champawat, and Saurav Tamta (20), a resident of Naskhola, Champawat.

Sharing details, a police officer said that as directed by the superintendent of police, Rekha Yadav, a joint team of Special Operations Group (SOG) and Lohaghat police, under the supervision of the Tanakpur circle officer, had conducted a checking operation on the Devidhar-Pancheshwar Road. During the operation, two suspects riding a motorcycle were stopped and searched, and 1.490 kilograms of illegal hashish was recovered from their possession.
A case has been registered against them at Lohaghat police station under sections of the NDPS Act.
During interrogation, the accused are learnt to have told the police that the recovered hashish was prepared locally and they were taking it to sell to a person in Champawat at a higher price.
The police are now investigating the forward and backward links in this case, so that other people involved in drug trafficking could be identified.
Champawat Police have appealed to the public to inform the public of any information about drug trafficking or drug trafficking through the helplines at 1933, 112, or the nearest police station. The identity of the informant would be kept strictly confidential, police said.
