Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology held an important meeting on Tuesday to strengthen its financial self-reliance and increase the revolving funds of various colleges and units. While the vice-chancellor, Shivendra Kumar Kashyap presided over the meeting, the deans and directors of various colleges and joint directors of research centres were present.

The university sources said that the main objective of the meeting was to develop new and sustainable sources of income by effectively utilising the university’s available intellectual capacity, infrastructure, research and technological achievements, and to formulate a concrete action plan towards doubling the revolving fund.

It was clarified at the meeting that increasing income by simply increasing fee-based seats would not be sufficient; rather, it is essential to link the university’s intellectual property, research and technological capabilities with commercialisation.

At the meeting, the dean of the College of Agriculture presented income generation opportunities through self-financing seats, product sales, bio fertilisers, soil and food testing, certificate courses, consultancy services and technology commercialisation.

The VC stated that the true strength of a university lies in its intellectual capacity and intellectual property. “Increasing income solely through paid seats or other administrative measures is not sufficient. By integrating the university’s research, technology, expertise and available resources with new revenue-generating models, projects should be developed that can be implemented on the ground within a stipulated time-frame,” he added.
