Purification row: SC wing of Congress holds protest

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

The workers of the Scheduled Caste (SC) wing of Uttarakhand Congress held a march towards the Police Headquarters on Monday to register their protest against the alleged ‘purification’ of the ground after the public meeting of the Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge  in Haldwani by BJP workers. The Congress workers and leaders assembled at the Rajiv Bhawan on the day and started their protest march towards the Police Headquarters. The police however stopped the march near Astley Hall.

Addressing the party workers, the State president of SC wing, Madan Lal said that it is unfortunate that some anti-social elements affiliated to Bharatiya Janata Party had conducted a Yagna for purification of the ground where the Congress president had addressed a massive rally on August 8. He said that this ‘purification’ exercise is dangerous for democracy and social harmony of the country. Lal said that all those involved in this heinous activity should be arrested immediately and punished.

The vice president of Uttarakhand Congress, Suryakant Dhasmana said that there is great anger among the SC community and weaker sections of the society of the country against the Haldwani incident. He said that the Congress party will not remain a mute spectator on such incidents aimed at dividing the society and showing disrespect to the SC community.
