Stray cattle, poor sanitation, damaged roads, inadequate streetlights and lack of proper vending zones were among the key issues raised by Congress leaders in a memorandum submitted to Dehradun municipal commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey on Saturday. Led by state vice-president Lalchand Sharma and former MLA Rajkumar, the delegation sought immediate action on the civic problems. Pandey assured them of necessary action.
Sharma said that the poor condition of Pavilion ground and Rangers ground was affecting youngsters who use them for sports and preparation for Army, police and paramilitary recruitment. He demanded that Rangers Ground be restored for sports activities.
He also sought special cleanliness measures in parks after the rains, including anti-larval spraying, bleaching powder and door-to-door fogging to prevent mosquito breeding and dengue. He demanded priority repair of roads and lanes damaged due to digging and potholes.
Rajkumar said that the lack of adequate vending zones was forcing small traders to operate along roadsides. He demanded that the city be divided into four zones and proper vending areas developed to improve both livelihoods and traffic management.
The leaders also sought better sanitation and streetlight arrangements in Gandhi Park and outer wards, particularly in areas recently brought under the municipal corporation.
Sharma said that stray cattle on roads and in markets were posing accident risks and affecting traffic. He demanded regular drives to shift them to gaushalas and kanji houses and a permanent animal-management system. The delegation also demanded increasing the monthly honorarium of Paryavaran Mitras from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 as per the municipal board proposal.

ive temporary sanitation workers were given appointment letters under the compassionate appointment quota at the MCD. Pandey handed over the appointment letters and congratulated the newly appointed workers.The officials and representatives present on the occasion wished the employees well and assured support for sanitation workers and their families.
