The number of cases of Swine Flu in provisional State capital Dehradun mounted to 67 with the district Health department reporting eight new cases of the disease on Friday. The chief medical officer (CMO) of Dehradun Dr Manoj Sharma said that 25 samples were tested for Influenza H1 N1 on Friday out of which eight samples were tested positive. He said that a total of 173 samples have been tested so far in the district out of which 67 samples ( 39 Male, 28 female) have been tested positive. The CMO said that five patients suffering from H1N1 have died from the disease in the district till date.
In view of increasing cases of Swine Flu, the Mahant Indiresh Hospital here has reserved a 50 bed ward for the patients of the disease. The hospital has also reserved five ICU beds for swine flu patients. The chief medical superintendent of the hospital Dr Anil Malik said that senior pulmonologist Dr Jagdish Rawat has been appointed as the nodal officer for swine flu cases.
Swine flu is a viral disease, its virus is also called H1 N1 and its genetic analysis has shown that it has originated from the animals specially pigs hence it is called Swine flu. The swine flu patients are divided into three categories. In ‘A’ category patients suffer from mild fever and irritation in the throat. The patients of this category should be isolated at home and require no test or medication. The patients of ‘B’ category are characterized by high fever and the patient needs isolation. The medical experts are of the view that if a patient is suffering from breathlessness, low Blood Pressure along with symptoms of A and B category then he is put under category ‘C’. Such patients should be isolated, hospitalized, should be administered Tami flu (oseltamivir ) and need to be tested for swine flu.
