Former Haridwar district Panchayat president and BJP member Ashok Tripathi on Sunday questioned the government over alleged irregularities and the quality of development works for the Haridwar Ardh Kumbh Mela 2027.

Speaking at the Uttaranchal Press Club here on Sunday, Tripathi said that the government was referring to the 2027 event as Kumbh, while it is an Ardh Kumbh. He said that the Ardh Kumbh is held every six years, while the Kumbh Mela is held every 12 years. He said that Haridwar and Prayagraj are the two places where the Ardh Kumbh is held.

Tripathi claimed that the government was spending funds without proper justification on several works related to the event. He said that he would present details of development projects, their quality and the expenditure involved.

The State government is carrying out several infrastructure and other development works in Haridwar ahead of the 2027 religious event. The projects are aimed at improving facilities and infrastructure for devotees. Tripathi said that questions over the quality of construction and use of funds should be answered with facts and documents.
