The Patelnagar police arrested a man on Sunday for allegedly assaulting and harassing his wife and giving her triple Talaq. The action was taken after the woman filed a complaint at Patelnagar police station.
The accused has been identified as Farman, hailing from Islampur Sahni in the Kiratpur area of Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh. According to police, the woman, a resident of Patelnagar, submitted a written complaint on September 12. She alleged that her husband had physically assaulted and harassed her and had given her triple Talaq.
Police registered an FIR under Sections 115(2) and 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3 and 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act.
Following the directions from senior officials, police began collecting evidence in the case. After examining the available evidence, the accused was arrested, police said. Further legal action against the accused is underway, officials said.
