Special Gram Sabhas will be held in all gram panchayats across Uttarakhand on October 2. The meetings will focus on rural development schemes and local needs. The ‘Reform Utsav’ will also be launched along with the People’s Plan Campaign (PPC).
The Gram Sabhas are being held on the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. The rural development minister Bharat Singh Chaudhary said villagers will be informed about various welfare schemes dished out by Central and State governments.
Officials from different departments will attend the commemorative meetings. They will explain government schemes and tell eligible villagers how they derive benefits. Information will also be shared through pamphlets, posters, videos and other material in simple and local languages.
Villagers will also be asked for suggestions about development work in their areas. Their needs and suggestions will be considered while preparing the Gram Panchayat Development Plan and other development plans, the minister said.
The planning process for the Viksit Gram Panchayat Plan (VGPP) will also begin on October 2. The process will continue until January under the VB-G RAM G Act, 2025.
The initiative aims to increase public participation and make rural development plans more focused on local needs, officials said.
