MCD takes over Kargi station after RISL fails to fix machines

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has taken over the Kargi Mechanised Transfer Station after Rasha Infra Services Limited (RISL) failed to repair the non-functional machinery and clear the accumulated garbage despite being given an additional two days after the September 30 deadline. The chief municipal health officer Dr Anand Shukla said that Rasha’s tenure ended on September 30, after which the company was given two more days to repair the machines and clear the waste. However, the extended period also ended without the machinery being restored or the garbage problem being resolved.

The Kargi station has been facing operational problems for a long time, with its garbage capsule-making process also remaining closed. The non-functional machinery has forced the MCD to transport waste from Kargi to other locations, increasing the number of trips and use of resources.

Shukla said that three machines at the station are currently non-functional. The accumulated waste is therefore being loaded into dumpers and transported to Sheeshambada for processing.

He said that the MCD has now deployed its own staff to manage operations at the station. It has also issued a notice to Rasha directing it to repair the machines and hand them over in working condition.

The station has also been receiving garbage beyond its capacity, with waste previously spilling onto roads around the facility. The civic body is currently handling the station on its own to ensure continued waste disposal.
