The police arrested a woman and her lover on Sunday for the alleged murder of her husband, whose body was found in a gorge in a forest near Dolphin College in Premnagar on October 3. The accused killed Madan Mukhiya a day earlier and dumped his body in the gorge, police said.

The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Pramendra Singh Dobal said that the woman, identified as Meena Devi, had been in a relationship with Lallan Sharma for around three years. Sharma, a labourer, was living as a tenant in Manduwala, he said.

Dobal said that two days before the murder, Sharma and Mukhiya were working together at a temple in Manduwala. Mukhiya checked Sharma’s phone and found photographs and videos of his wife with Sharma. He then threatened to expose their relationship and kill them, the SSP said.

According to the police, the two accused then allegedly planned the murder. Devi took Mukhiya to the forest on the pretext of drinking alcohol. After he became heavily intoxicated, she and Sharma allegedly attacked him with a knife and slit his throat before throwing his body into the gorge. The police found the body around 4 PM on Saturday. Sharma was arrested near Bala Sundari Mandir, following which Devi was arrested. The knife used in the murder was recovered from bushes near the crime scene, Dobal said.
