The Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have questioned the timing of actress Urmila Sanwar’s arrest. The chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress, Garima Dasauni said that Sanawar had given her consent for the narco-analysis and polygraph tests in the Ankita Bhandari murder case in the court on October 23. She said that the court was scheduled to begin further proceedings in the case on October 26, but just before that, on October 25, Sanawar was arrested in a separate case and sent to 14-day judicial custody.
Dasauni said that Sanawar was going to make big revelations about the role of alleged VIP in the Ankita Bhandari murder case but her arrest a day before her narco test has raised many questions. Dasauni questioned, “ Will the government ensure that this arrest does not in any way affect the investigation into the role of the alleged VIP involved in the Ankita Bhandari murder case.’’
The AAP Uttarakhand president Uma Gaud Sisodia alleged the timing of Sanawar’s arrest has raised concerns over the possibility of a narco test in the Bhandari murder case.Sisodia said that Sanawar was arrested a day before her scheduled court appearance, prompting questions about whether the development could affect proceedings related to the demand for a narco test.
She alleged that the circumstances had fuelled public concerns over whether questions surrounding the alleged VIP in the case would be addressed. She said that if Sanawar was guilty in another case, the law should take its course, but the timing of the arrest warranted scrutiny. Sisodia called for a fair and transparent investigation into all aspects of the Ankita Bhandari case, including allegations concerning the VIP’s role. The AAP leader said that no influential person should be shielded from investigation because of political connections or protection from those in power. She urged the State Government to clarify its position on the allegations and ensure that the investigation remained free from interference.
